Ensuring the safety of your inventory through fulfillment services

Ensuring the safety of your inventory through fulfillment services

When the time comes for you to outsource your ecommerce business to fulfillment services, you need to make sure you are making the best and safest decision for you and your customers. Undoubtedly, some fulfillment companies out there are going to do all they can to provide as little service for as much money as possible. Don’t let yourself become another notch in their belt--you need to do your research! There are several factors in making the decision of which fulfillment service company to choose, and one of them is the safety of your inventory.

Things to Consider Regarding the Safety of your Inventory at a Fulfillment Service Warehouse.

Excellent fulfillment service companies will have cameras that provide constant monitoring of all the warehouse areas. This way the security of your product does not end when the company closes its doors for the night. Most fulfillment service companies will have some type of security system in place, but clearly a camera system is one of the most efficient.

Another way your inventory may be protected is through caged areas or fences around the most information-sensitive products. Of course, your inventory will likely not be outside in the scorching Arizona heat, but if it is, it needs to be doubly protected. The caged areas inside fulfillment warehouses should have restricted access and be available to only some employees.

Check to see if your fulfilment service company has a security alarm. If you have a security alarm around your home, you know how much easier it is to sleep at night knowing you are protected. The same goes for your inventory. Make sure it is protected in the warehouse by some kind of security system. Again, this is a way to make sure that your products are safe and free from harm even after all the employees have gone home for the evening.

Lastly and most importantly, make sure the company you choose has sufficiently trained employees handling your products. This could be the absolute most important factor in trusting your inventory in other people’s hands. Express any concern you have over employee behavior and any suspicions that may arise. Ask your fulfillment service company if they provide periodic training on the importance of proper inventory management and safety.

If the company you are looking into can show you that some of these precautions are being taken, you can feel good about your choice in signing a contract with them.
