Fulfillment Center Packaging Fees
Often, with the shipping discounts, fulfillment center companies will include a hidden packaging fee in the cost you pay for shipping, or per order. This is often how Direct Response Fulfillment providers are able to quote “free packaging” even though that is not necessarily the case. Most order fulfillment service providers will make a list of “standard cartons” available to their clients. If your products do not fit in these packages, you will likely need to provide your own packaging, or pay an additional fee.
FULFILLMENT CENTER COMPANIES TYPICALLY CHARGE FEES PER ORDER AND PER ITEM SHIPPED.
However, there may exist hidden fees associated with fulfillment duties which could
outweigh the savings your company gets on the shipping discounts. The following are some costs and potential fees to watch out for: Receiving merchandise, receiving orders via mail order, manage continuity or autoship programs, processing credit cards, including multipays, coordinating and inserting all bounce-back materials and returns, preparing documentation for international shipments, providing all reports as required by client, inspecting returned merchandise, updating customer database for returns, issuing customer credits, restocking undamaged return merchandise, responding to chargebacks, making bank deposits, answer customer service phone calls, responding to all customer e-mail correspondence storage and “Account processing fees” for invoice payments made via credit card. These, along with the packaging fees are some of the costs you should discuss when you find a Product Fulfillment House for your business.
